About Max Leiva

Max Leiva

Max Leiva’s background includes two years at Silpakorn University, in Thailand, on a scholarship that allowed him to perfect his training in sculpture and bronze casting, and academic training at the School of Fine Arts in Guatemala. This, added to additional studies with Dagoberto Vasquez, one of the most renowned Guatemalan sculptors, lend a particular national character to his work.

In 2007 year, Max Leiva managed to hold an idea and implement it with significant support: the International Festival of sculpture in Guatemala.  "The dialogue of a festival of this kind consisted in  approach people, the public in general , and generate an alternative living space without worries; reaching the feelings of people in a direct way.  This does not mean that awareness of this type of art not produce a result in the minds of people. You have to be optimistic, believe in humanity".

Far from proposing a passive, static contemplation, Max Leiva´s sculptures always present a captured action: something is happening in the immobile progression of the pieces. At every moment, the sculptures respond to an internal rhythm of their own that originates from a pondered study of a three- dimensionally.

His work is essentially figurative and expressionist, result of a constant search for ideas, born with the drawing as a tool. In the sketch seeks to put an order a series of thoughts, ideas that come and go, and suddenly take shape volumetric or thematic.

The public monuments that he has developed do not follow his same creative line, because each of these works has a special essence; however, in his own words: “these masterpieces come together in the movement, expressionism and intend to direct communication with the spectator". But already trough his creative style or the one that uses to develop the design of public monuments, Max has the merit of hold the moment trough this gesture that passes  millions of times a day and in his work lives forever.
